TAIPEI, Taiwan - Penn State rising senior Briannah Tsang (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Team Canada captured a silver medal in women's artistic gymnastics on Monday, Aug. 21, at the 2017 World University Games at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.
"I'm very excited about how the team did today," Tsang told gymcan.org. "We worked hard to be here and throughout the competition, stayed composed with great attitudes and it paid off. I can't wait to put it all out there for the all-around finals tomorrow, and I'm excited to see Ellie [Black] and Brittany [Rogers] rock their finals as well."
As a team, Canada posted a 161.100 to bring home the silver medal. The Russian Federation tallied a 163.000 for the gold medal, while Japan finished third with a 159.900.
Individually, Tsang finished 13th overall in the all-around qualifier with a score of 49.550, which qualified her for the all-around final. She will now compete again on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 6:30 p.m. local time (6:30 a.m. EDT).
Tsang opened up the meet on the vault with a score of 13.550 to finish 11th. During the second rotation, Tsang tallied a 10.450 on the uneven bars. She closed out the day with a 12.850 (10th) on the balance beam and a 12.550 (14th) on the floor exercise.
