LONDON, England - Former Penn Stater Joe Kovacs highlighted the action on Sunday night at the IAAF World Championships capturing a silver medal in the men's shot put at Olympic Stadium.
The 2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist secured his silver medal at the IAAF World Championships on his third attempt, posting his best throw of the night measuring 71'-0.75" (21.66m). The silver for Kovacs comes after a gold medal performance at the 2015 IAAF World Championships and his aforementioned silver medal in Rio last summer.
Also competing in the final of the men's shot put was former volunteer assistant coach Ryan Whiting who finished seventh in the event with his best of 69'-2.50" (21.09), followed by Penn State alum Darrell Hill in 11th with a best of 68'-2.50" (20.79m).
Penn State sensation Isaiah Harris stepped on the track for the semifinal of the men's 800-meters looking to continue his spectacular sophomore season.
Harris finished fourth in his heat running 1:46.66 that finished 17th overall for the 20-year-old from Lewiston, ME.
Current volunteer assistant coach Eddie Lovett also competed on Sunday finishing fifth in his heat and 18th overall with a time of 13.67 for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
