UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State wrestling team, winner of six of the last seven NCAA titles, has announced its 2017-18 schedule. Head coach Cael Sanderson's squad will wrestle eight home duals this year, including one huge Big Ten match-up in the Bryce Jordan Center.
Penn State opens up its season at home on Thursday, Nov. 9, with a 7 p.m. dual against Army West Point in Rec Hall. Three days later, the Bucknell Bison visit Rec Hall on Sunday, Nov. 12, for a 2 p.m. match-up. The next weekend, Sanderson's squad hits the road for two events. Penn State wrestles at Binghamton on Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. and then heads to the University of Pennsylvania for the Keystone Classic. The Lions look to defend their Classic crown on Sunday, Nov. 19, in the historic Palestra on Penn's campus. Start time for the event is to be announced.
The Nittany Lions have two dual meets on their December slate. Penn State visits Lehigh on Sunday, Dec. 3, for a 2 p.m. dual that will be held in the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa. The Lions return to Rec Hall to open up its Big Ten schedule on Sunday, Dec. 17, when the Indiana Hoosiers come to town for a 1 p.m. match-up.
Penn State returns to the Southern Scuffle this season, taking part in the event at UT-Chattanooga on Jan. 1-2, 2018. The Nittany Lions won six straight Scuffle titles from 2011-16 and returns to the event after a year off. Ten days later, the Big Ten schedule continues in force with the Lions hitting the road for two duals. Penn State visits Michigan on Friday, Jan. 12, at 9 p.m. and Michigan State on Sunday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m.
The first of two straight home and home weekends starts in Rec Hall on Friday, Jan. 19, when Purdue comes to town for a 7 p.m. dual. Penn State then treks to Maryland on Sunday, Jan. 21, for a 2 p.m. meeting. The Nittany Lions host Big Ten foe Minnesota in Rec Hall on Friday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. and then visit Rutgers at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28.
Penn State never leaves home in February this year and hosts three dual meets. The Lions welcome the Ohio State Buckeyes to Rec Hall on Saturday, Feb. 3, for a dual beginning at 6 or 8 p.m. (time TBA for television). This year's BJC Dual takes place on Saturday, Feb, 10, with the Iowa Hawkeyes visiting the near-16,000 seat venue to tangle with Penn State. The dual will begin at 6 or 8 p.m. as well (time TBA for television). The Nittany Lions will close out the dual meet season by hosting Buffalo on Sunday, Feb. 18. Senior Day for Penn State will begin at 2 p.m. in Rec Hall.
The 2017-18 Big Ten Championships will be hosted by Michigan State University on Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4, in East Lansing, Mich. The 2017-18 NCAA Wrestling Championships will take place in Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, on Thursday through Saturday, March 15-17. Penn State has won six of the last seven NCAA titles (including two straight) and returns five defending NCAA Champions.
With season tickets anticipated to sell out once again, new fans are encouraged to call 1-800-NITTANY to have their names placed on a waiting list. If fans have previously been on the Waiting List, no action is necessary. Season ticket prices per dual will remain the same but there is an added eighth dual meet this season. The renewal process for season tickets will begin with renewal notices on Sept. 20.
Should any season tickets become available after the renewal period ends, individuals on the waiting list are ranked by Nittany Lion Club priority points and will be contacted in descending order. Season ticket renewals will be live at www.GoPSUsports.com/accountmanager on Wed., Sept. 20, along with applications for the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Cleveland and additional BJC Dual single match tickets for season ticket holders. Each of the above items is available for patrons renewing season tickets only. Season ticket holders will receive email confirmation of the renewal date on Sept. 19 and hard-copy invoices will be mailed the week of Sept. 18 as well. The season ticket renewal deadline is set for Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 5 p.m. Online ticket management will open for print-at-home, transfer and resale on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Standing room only single event tickets for Penn State's seven Rec Hall duals and single event tickets for February's BJC Dual against Iowa will go on sale to Nittany Lion Club members on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. Season ticket holders may purchase Rec Hall SROs on Oct. 17 as well. The general public will be able to purchase Rec Hall SROs and BJC Dual singles on Thursday, Oct. 19., at 10 a.m. Season tickets will be mailed the week of October 23. The 2017-18 wrestling schedule's dates and times are subject to change.
