TEAM
- Trace McSorley hit Juwan Johnson for the 7-yard touchdown strike as time expire for the win. The victory is the first as time expired (in regulation) since Sam Ficken connected on a field goal against UCF in the Croke Park Classic in 2014.
- The play also marked the first time that Penn State won on a touchdown in the final moments of regulation since Bobby Engram had a touchdown catch with eight seconds left against Michigan State in 1995.
- This is the first game-winning touchdown as time expired in regulation since a punt return for a TD to beat Lafayette on the final play in 1929 (per Lou Prato and the Penn State Football Encyclopedia).
- Penn State is 4-0 for the second time under James Franklin and the first time since 2014.
- The Nittany Lions have won their last four road games, the longest streak since winning four in a row in 2011.
- Penn State has not allowed a point in the first quarter this season. The Nittany Lions join Southern Mississippi (3 games) as the only teams yet to yield a point in the first quarter this season in FBS.
- Penn State registered its second safety of the season via a Shareef Miller takedown in the end zone of Akrum Wadley in the second quarter. This is the first time since 2004 that the Nittany Lions had two safeties in a season.

OFFENSE
- With 4,836 career passing yards, Trace McSorley moved into ninth place on Penn State's career passing yardage chart. He moved past Todd Blackledge (4,812; 1980-82) for the position.
- McSorley turned in his 14th career 200-yard passing game to tie Daryll Clark for fifth place on Penn State's career chart.
- McSorley threw his 41st career touchdown pass to move into a tie for fourth place on Penn State's career list. He is tied with Todd Blackledge, Tony Sacca and Zack Mills for the spot.
- With 5,442 career total yards, McSorley moved up four positions to the No. 6 slot on Penn State's career chart. He passed Anthony Morelli, Chuck Fusina, Michael Robinson and Kerry Collins with his performance at Iowa..

- RB Saquon Barkley broke the Penn State record for all-purpose yards in a game with 358 yards (211 rush, 94 receiving, 53 return). He breaks the mark previously held by Curt Warner (341; at Syracuse in 1981).
- Barkley's 358 all-purpose yards are 10th all-time in Big Ten history.
- Barkley had a career-high 12 receptions. His previous high was six at Northwestern in 2015.
- Barkley is the first Penn State player to have 10 or more receptions since DaeSean Hamilton had 14 catches against Ohio State in 2014.
- Barkley became the seventh player in Penn State history to have 3,000 career rushing yards.
- With 3,090 career rushing yards, Barkley moved into seventh place on Penn State's career rushing yards list. He passed Lydell Mitchell and Larry Johnson with his effort at Iowa.
- Barkley's 211 rushing yards are a career high, besting the mark set at Purdue (207) in 2016.
- His 211 rushing yards rank tied for 15th in Penn State history with Lydell Mitchell (at Iowa; 1971), Curtis Enis (vs. Ohio State; 1997) and Eric McCoo (vs. Ohio State; 1999).
- The effort is Barkley's third career 200-yard game, tying John Cappelletti for second place in Penn State history. He trails Larry Johnson (4) for the career record.
- Barkley posted his 12th career 100-yard game to move into a tie with Lenny Moore for ninth place on the Penn State career charts.
- With 4,222 career all-purpose yards (3,090 rush, 898 receiving, 234 return), Barkley moved up five spots on the Penn State career charts to the sixth position. Barkley passed D.J. Dozier, Lydell Mitchell, Curtis Enis, Bobby Engram and Derrick Williams with his effort at Iowa.
- Barkley is the ninth player in program history with 4,000 career all-purpose yards.
- With one touchdown at Iowa, Barkley moved into a tie for fifth place on Penn State's career rushing touchdowns list (29 touchdowns).
- TE Mike Gesicki has a catch in 18-straight games.
- With 1,066 career receiving yards, Gesicki moved into 22nd place on Penn State's all-time list, passing Jimmy Cefalo (1,058; 1974-77).
- WR Juwan Johnson pulled in his first career touchdown catch as time expired.
- Johnson had career highs with seven catches and 92 yards against Iowa. His previous personal mark was four receptions for 84 yards against Akron in the season opener.

DEFENSE
- DE Ryan Buchholz made his first career start.
- DE Shareef Miller wore #19 to honor injured DE Torrence Brown.
- Miller took down Iowa RB Akrum Wadley in the end zone in the second quarter for Penn State's second safety of the season (Marcus Allen vs. Pitt).
- With five tackles against Iowa, Allen moved into a tie for 10th place on Penn State's career tackles chart with Brandon Short (273).
- Allen forced his fourth career fumble in the third quarter, stripping Akrum Wadley.
- Allen had a career-high two tackles for loss. His previous was 1.5 on three occasions with the last coming at Indiana in 2016.
- CB Grant Haley recovered his first career fumble in the third quarter off of Marcus Allen's strip of Akrum Wadley.
- CB Christian Campbell recorded a pass breakup for the fifth consecutive game.
SPECIAL TEAMS
- K Tyler Davis had seven points at Iowa to move his career total to 195 points and move into 14th place on the Penn State all-time list. He passed Collin Wagner, Matt Bahr, Bobby Engram and Charlie Pittman with his effort against the Hawkeyes.
- P Blake Gillikin recorded three punts inside the Iowa 10, which is a career high. His previous high was two against Pitt each of the last two seasons.
- He has 13 career punts inside the 10 with seven in 2016 and six this season.
- Gillikin had a 52-yard punt in the fourth quarter, which was his 13th career 50-yard punt.
- S Troy Apke blocked his first career field goal in the fourth quarter.
