UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Head coach Randy Jepson announced the 2018 men's gymnastics schedule which will feature four home meets and two double duals Thursday, Oct. 12.
"We have a great mix of foes that we will face this year," said Jepson. "We have some very strong east coast foes. We have a Big Ten schedule that will prime us for the NCAA Championship."
The Nittany Lions open the 2018 campaign when they head to the Army West Point Open, Jan. 12-13. Penn State earned all six individual titles in the 2016 campaign and took home four individual titles in 2017 at the West Point Open. Senior Colin Coates returns to defend his pommel horse title for the third-straight season this year after winning it in both 2016 and 2017.
The Blue and White kicks off its home slate Saturday, Jan. 20 when Army comes to Happy Valley for a dual starting at 4 p.m. The Nittany Lions will then host their first double dual of the season and first Big Ten Conference competition when they welcome Illinois into Rec Hall Saturday, Jan. 27 at 4 p.m.
Penn State then travels to two time defending Big Ten Conference Champion Ohio State for a dual Saturday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. A select group of Nittany Lions hit the road to Las Vegas, Nevada for the annual Winter Cup, Feb. 15-17 before the entire squad is back in action Saturday, Feb. 24 at Rec Hall against the Golden Gophers of Minnesota.
Jepson and his team travel to Iowa for its fourth Big Ten Conference meet of the season Saturday, March 3 at 8 p.m. Last season, Penn State fell to the Hawkeyes on the road but came back to score a season-best at home to pick up the victory in its final home meet of the season.
The Nittany Lions compete in one final non-conference meet when it travels to Tempe, Arizona for a 7 p.m. dual on Saturday, March 10 with Arizona State.
Penn State will celebrate the career of its three seniors Saturday, March 17 when its hosts Nebraska at 4 p.m. Senior Day celebrations are scheduled prior to the meet against the Cornhuskers.
The Blue and White conclude its 2018 regular season Saturday, March 24 when it makes the trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan for a 1 p.m. dual with the Wolverines.
Penn State will take a break in action before heading back to Ann Arbor, Michigan to compete for its fourth Big Ten Championship, April 6-7. Following the Big Ten Championship, the Nittany Lions will travel to Chicago, Illinois to compete for their 13th NCAA National Championship.
