HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The first road test of the season for the Penn State women's basketball team was passed in impressive fashion, as the Lady Lions (3-0) toppled Marshall (1-1), 80-65, inside the Cam Henderson Center on Wednesday (Nov. 15) evening.

When Penn State needed a spark early in the second quarter, it was freshman Kamaria McDaniel (Inkster, Mich.) that provide it. The rookie hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter, with the first at the 6:31 mark giving Penn State the lead, 24-23, its first lead since it was 4-2 with 9:05 to play in the first quarter.

McDaniel poured in a career-high 20 points in the game for her first career double-figure scoring game. The rookie hit 7-of-10 shots from the field, including 5-of-7 from behind the arch. She added four rebounds, two assist and two steals.

Jaida Travascio-Green (Lisle, Ill.) tallied 15 points -- to go along with five rebounds and De'Janae Boykin (Springdale, Md.) added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Amari Carter (Washington, D.C.) had 12 points and Siyeh Frazier (Detroit, Mich.) capped the double-figure scorers with 11 tallies.

The five players in double-figures marked the first time for Penn State since putting five in double-digits at Northwestern on Feb. 5, 2017.

Carter added a game-high six assists and a game-best five steals. Jaylen Williams (Easton, Mass.), Boykin and Travascio-Green each blocked two shots in the game.

Shayna Gore paced all scorers with 22 points, while Ashley Saintigene paced all players with 10 rebounds.

With 4:30 to go in the third quarter
Kamaria McDaniel hit her third 3-pointer in a two-minute span in the middle of a 19-2 run that broke the game open for Penn State. McDaniel's 3-pointer gave Penn State a double-figure lead for the first time in the game, as the Lady Lions led 51-39 at that point.

  • G Kamaria McDaniel -- Posted her first career double-figure scoring game with 20 points, including five makes from 3-point range. Added four rebounds two assists and one steal.
  • G Jaida Travascio-Green -- Scored 15 points with five rebound and two blocked shots.
  • F De'Janae Boykin -- Added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Added two blocked shots and two assists.
  • G Amari Carter -- Dished out a game-high six assists. Added 12 points and a game-high five steals.
  • Turnover Margin -- Penn State committed just nine turnovers, while forcing 22 turnovers. Penn State turned those Herd missteps into 20 points.
  • Block Party -- Penn State registered seven blocked shots in the game, making that 20 blocked shots in the past two games for the Blue and White.

Marshall

  • G Shayna Gore -- Scored a game-high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Added four assists, four rebounds and one steal.
  • F Ashley Saintigene -- Posted a game-high 10 rebounds with eight points.

First Quarter
Marshall controlled the opening tip, but a steal and transition basket from Siyeh Frazier opened the scoring and, after an empty trip by the Thundering Herd, Amari Carter scored on a layup to make it 4-0 in favor of the Blue and White. After a 6-0 run by Marshall, Kamari McDaniel checked in, collected a steal in the backcourt and laid it in to knot the score at six. Marshall used a 9-2 spurt to take the early momentum and lead 15-8, and the two teams scored six points each down the stretch to end the opening 10 minutes at 21-14 in favor of the home team.

Second Quarter
The second quarter was all about weathering the storm, as each team used scoring spurts to swing the momentum. A 17-2 run for the Lady Lions opened the quarter, including a pair of McDaniel 3-points, the final one pushing Penn State's lead to eight points, 31-23, with 5:09 to play in the half. Marshall scored the next 10 points, bookended by a pair of Shanya Gore 3-pointers to recapture the lead, 33-31, with 3:11 to play. Penn State closed the half by scoring the final five points to take a three point lead into the break.

Third Quarter
While both teams exchanged baskets to open the third quarter, Penn State was hitting from beyond the arch to push its lead into double digits. The Lady Lions used four-straight 3-pointers to push the lead to double figures for the first time in the game, as the third 3-pointer of the quarter from McDaniel gave the Blue and White a 51-39 edge with 4:30 to play. Penn State continued to own the edge, ending the quarter on an 8-4 run to give them a 16-point advantage entering the final 10 minutes.

Fourth Quarter
Jaida Travascio-Green scored seven points in the fourth quarter and Sam Breen (Gibsonia, Pa.) chipped in four tallies. Amari Carter hit a 3-pointer with 2:34 to play in the quarter to push Penn State's lead to 24 points -- its largest of the night -- before Marshall would score the final nine points to of the game to account for the final margin.
