LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Penn State women's cross country team wrapped up the 2017 season at the NCAA Championships posting a top-20 finish for a third-straight year Saturday morning at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park Cross Country Course hosted by the University of Louisville.
Penn State has recorded a top-20 finish in three-consecutive seasons at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1991-94.
The women's team got the day going as the Nittany Lions toed the line for the eighth time over the past nine season. 2016 All-American Jillian Hunsberger led the way for the Blue & White as she has during every meet this year. Hunsberger, who competed in her fourth-straight NCAA cross country championships, closed out her senior campaign on the course with a 75th-place finish running 20:31.14 over 6K.
Sophomore Kathryn Munks and freshman Alison Willingmyre were the next two across the line for Penn State finishing 106th and 118th, respectively, with times of 20:45.33 and 20:51.95.
Sophomore Danae Rivers and senior Greta Lindsley rounded out scoring for the Nittany Lions crossing the line in 132nd and 147th-place, respectively, in 20:57.82 and 21:03.83.
Lisa Bennatan (228th) and Victoria Crawford (250th) also competed, finishing with times of 21:57.37 and 22:57.53, respectively.
For the first time since the 2014 season, Penn State was represented on the men's side by Colin Abert and Timothy McGowan who qualified individually for the NCAA meet.
Abert and McGowan closed out their cross country seasons with times of 31:13.86 and 31:59.61. For McGowan, this was his final cross country race in the Blue & White as the senior from Northport, N.Y. earned All-Region honors in back-to-back seasons before capping his career with an appearance at the NCAA Championships.
This concludes the 2017 Penn State cross country season.
