Biro Named B1G Third Star of the Week

Nov. 21, 2017

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Sophomore Brandon Biro (Sherwood Park, Alb.) was named the Big Ten men's ice hockey Third Star of the Week as announced by the league office earlier Tuesday morning.

Biro led the conference and was tied for the national lead with five points during a weekend sweep at Arizona State. The sophomore forward scored twice while adding three assists over the two games.

On Friday Biro tied his career-high with a three-point effort after scoring once and adding a pair of assists. The following night Biro's snipe from the right circle tied the game at 1-1 in the first period and he later had the primary assist on junior Derian Hamilton's (Port McNeill, B.C.) game-winning goal during a 4-2 victory on Saturday.

After scoring a goal in each game over the weekend Biro is now riding a two-game goal/point streak and it marks the first time in his young career he has scored a goal in back-to-back contests. This also marks the first career weekly award for Biro and the second for a Nittany Lion this season. Sophomore Denis Smirnov (Moscow, Russia) added Second Star accolades back on October 17.

Biro is currently tied for second on the team with 11 points on four goals and seven assists in 13 games played this season. He also now has three multi-point games this season and six in his career.

The Nittany Lions return to action this weekend when they host Michigan State for a pair of Big Ten Conference matchups on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

Tickets for this weekend are still available HERE or by calling 1-800-NITTANY.
