STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 10 and third-seeded Penn State women's soccer team ended its 2017 season with a 4-0 loss to the No. 1 and top-seeded Stanford Cardinal in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
"Thank you to the seniors for everything you have done for us," head coach Erica Dambach said. "Thank you to Brittany Basinger and Salina Williford for coming back for your fifth year. They taught us so much and they came into the program and it was at a certain level and they left the program at a completely different level and we can't thank them enough for that."
Penn State closed out the 2017 season with a record of 15-5-4, while Stanford improved to 22-1-0.
Stanford jumped out to an early lead in the contest as it scored three times within the first 12 minutes of action.
For the Cardinal, Catarina Macario made it 1-0 at 1:35, before Andi Sullivan and Jaye Boissiere scored at 10:12 and 11:40, respectively. Kyra Carusa closed out the scoring for Stanford at 24:49.
Looking to get Penn State on the scoreboard in the eighth minute of play, Frannie Crouse (Greensburg, Pa.) connected on a shot from outside the penalty area that Stanford goalkeeper Alison Jahansouz was able to push over the crossbar and out of play for the save.
In net for the Nittany Lions, Rose Chandler (Atlanta, Ga.) made four saves during 66:00 of play, while Amanda Dennis (San Diego, Calif.) closed out the contest for Penn State and made one save.
In net for Stanford, Jahansouz tallied two saves in 74:25 of action, while Lauren Rood did not make a save during the final 15:35 of regulation.
