UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team closed out its four-game homestand with a 1-1 tie against the Mercyhurst Lakers in a College Hockey America (CHA) contest Saturday afternoon at the Pegula Ice Arena.
After a scoreless opening period of play, the Nittany Lions (2-6-4, 0-1-3 CHA) struck first on the afternoon, as Christi Vetter (Lakeville, Minn.) scored her second goal in the past three games at 6:31 into the second period.
On the Vetter goal, Irene Kiroplis (Georgetown, Ontario) picked up the primary assist for her first assist of the season, while Brooke Madsen (Eagan, Minn.) was credited with the secondary assist for her fourth assist of the 2017-18 campaign.
Penn State held its 1-0 lead over Mercyhurst (2-6-2- 2-1-2 CHA) until Molly Blasen knotted the contest at 1-1 with 5:08 left in regulation.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net during the final 5:08 of regulation or overtime ending the game in a 1-1 tie.
In net, sophomore Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario) tallied a season-high 34-save outing for the Blue & White, while Sarah McDonnell made 19 saves for Mercyhurst.
Penn State continues its six-game stretch of conference games at Syracuse, Nov. 10-11. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse, N.Y.
