UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State men's tennis team closed out its fall tournament circuit today at the William and Mary Invite. The invitational was held at the Millie West Tennis Facility in Williamsburg, Va. The Penn State and Middle Tennessee State combined team took on Harvard University in today's slate.

In today's round of doubles, Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) and Matt Galush (Cary, NC) faced off against Harvard's Jean Thirouin and Andy Zhou with the Lions coming out victorious 7-5. Noah Sutter (New York, NY) and Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil) took on Robertas Wrzesinski and Constantin Zoske of Harvard but couldn't hang on and were defeated 6-2.

In singles play, Lieb battled Harvard's Grant Solomon in a tough three sets but was defeated 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Nemeth faced off against Wrzesinski and won 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Galush also had a solid match defeating Harvard's Galen Lee 6-1, 6-3. Sutter took on Michael Peters of Harvard but dropped the match 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

"We weren't able to practice outside the week before the tournament and I was a little worried to see how we would play when we got down there," said head coach Jeff Zinn. "Friday wasn't the best day for us, especially in doubles, but we were able to rebound on Saturday and Sunday. Matt and Ben picked up a couple of quality wins that we needed and hopefully they can carry that into the spring slate. I was very pleased with Gabriel and his singles play over the entire tournament. He won all his matches and has had a very good fall season which should help his confidence moving forward for the spring."

"Ben and Matt stepped up in doubles play today taking down a top Harvard team," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "Matt and Gabriel both had good singles wins today, which we needed to see from them. We know what we need to work on with each player moving forward."

The William and Mary Invite is the final competition for the blue and white this fall. The Nittany Lion's men's tennis team will pick back up again in January with its spring slate.
