COLUMBUS, Ohio. -- A double-digit scoring run in the first quarter gave No. 17/18 Ohio State momentum, as the Penn State women's basketball team fell 94-64 on Wednesday (Jan. 31) evening inside Value City Arena.

The Buckeyes (18-5, 7-3 B1G) connected on 46 percent of their shots, as the Lady Lions (13-10, 4-6 B1G) hit on just 36 percent from the field in the game. Ohio State also held the edge in rebounds (46-37), assists (23-9), steals (8-2) and blocked shots (6-2).

Leading the way for Penn State was sophomore Jaida Travascio-Green (Lisle, Ill.) with 14 points. It was the fourth time she led the team in scoring this season and sixth in her career. The sophomore hit four 3-pointers in the game, giving her 10 games this season with 3-plus makes from distance. It was her fifth-straight double-figure scoring game and her 17th of the season.

Moving into the top-25 in program history with her start, Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.) sits even with Tiffany Longworth (1994-97) at No. 25 with 78 career starts. In the game, she posted her 15th double-figure scoring game and 69th of her career with 13 points. She added seven rebounds and two assists to her line, as well.

Redshirt-sophomore Amari Carter (Washington, D.C.) moved up the career assist list and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds to go along with 12 points. It was her 19th double-figure scoring game this season and 28th of her career. With the nine boards, Carter bested her two eight-rebound efforts, last coming vs. Central Connecticut State earlier this season. Carter jumped two spots and is now tied for No. 26 all-time in assists at Penn State, equaling Jess Brungo (2001-04) and Lindsey Spann (2015-17) at 217 helpers.

Freshman Kamaria McDaniel moved into a tie for No. 10 on the freshman 3-pointers made list with her 21st make of the season from distance. She is equal with Alex Bentley (2009-10) for the 10th spot on the rookie charts, finishing the night with five points and a career-high-tying six rebounds off the bench.

Ohio State had five double-digit scorers, led by a game-high 27 points from Kelsey Mitchell, who also had a game-high five assists. Stephanie Mavunga (19 points, 11 rebounds) and Linnae Harper (13 points, 10 rebounds) each contributed a double-double in the game. Sierra Calhoun tallied 12 points, while Alexa Hart chipped in 12 tallies off the bench.

With 6:04 left in the first quarter
After the two teams exchanged mini-runs to open the game, Ohio State used a 14-0 run over a two-minute span, starting with a Mavunga layup with 6:04 to play in the quarter. The run included eight points from Mitchell, four from Mavunga and two from Harper.

First Quarter
Ohio State scored the first four points of the game before a Boykin layup with 8:31 to play got Penn State on the scoreboard. After another basket from the Buckeyes, Siyeh Frazier (Detroit, Mich.) was fouled after making a layup and converted the free throw to make it a 6-5 contest with 6:24 left in the quarter. Ohio State then went on a 14-0 run to open up the double-digit lead, 20-5, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Mitchell. The Lady Lions outscored the Buckeyes, 5-4, to close the quarter.

Second Quarter
A 12-3 spurt to start the second quarter enabled the Buckeyes to push their lead over 20 points, 36-13, before Penn State reeled off 10-straight points over a two-minute stretch. With Penn State drawing within 13, 36-23, Ohio State closed the half on a 13-5 run to take a 21-point lead into the locker room. Carter led Penn State with six points in the quarter, while Mavunga has 11 tallies for Ohio State in the second 10 minutes.

Third Quarter
Ohio State tallied seven of the first nine points to move its lead to 26 points, 56-30, with 7:57 to play in the third quarter. Penn State would score the next six points to cut into the deficit, but the Buckeyes would own a 12-11 edge over the final five minutes of the quarter to make it an even 19 points for each squad in the frame. Page's eight points out of the locker room led Penn State in the frame.

Fourth Quarter
The Buckeyes extended their lead in the fourth quarter behind three scoring spurts, including an 11-5 run to end the game. Seven different Buckeyes found the scoring sheet in the fourth quarter, outscoring Penn State 26-17 over the final 10 minutes. Five different Lady Lions scored in the final frame, led by six points from Travascio-Green on a pair of 3-pointers.
