UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's soccer team is scheduled to play five matches during its 2018 spring schedule, head coach Erica Dambach announced Monday. The Nittany Lions will host four matches and travel once.
The 2018 spring schedule gets underway on Feb. 24 when the Nittany Lions travel to Manalapan, New Jersey, to take on SkyBlue FC of the National Women's Soccer League. The match is slated for a 6 p.m. start at Sportika.
When the Nittany Lions take the field against SkyBlue FC, they'll be playing against Penn State women's soccer alumnae Maya Hayes '14 and Raquel Rodriguez '16.
The spring slate then continues for Penn State on March 25 against Villanova. The match is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. at Holuba Hall.
The month of April features Penn State playing three times at either Jeffrey Field or Holuba Hall, pending the weather. During April, Penn State will play Bucknell (April 3 -- 7 p.m.), St. Francis (April 10 -- 7:30 p.m.) and Georgetown (April 14 -- 2 p.m.).
The Nittany Lions return 20 letterwinners from the 2017 season and welcomed early enrollee Kelli Beiler (Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa.) to the team for the 2018 spring semester. Beiler is eligible to practice with the team and can play in spring soccer matches.
Last season, the Nittany Lions won their seventh Big Ten Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinal round for the third time in the past four seasons. Penn State finished the 2017 season ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
