UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 12th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions play their third game in eight days when they host No. 17 Cornell on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Panzer Stadium.

THE MATCHUP

  • This marks the 13th meeting all-time between the two schools with Penn State holding the 9-3 advantage including the slim 9-8 victory last season at Cornell.
  • Both the Nittany Lions and Big Red have met each season since 2013 with Penn State holding the 3-2 record over the past five years.
  • Since 2001 the games have been fairly close and low scoring with 13 goals being the most scored by a winning team and five goals as the largest winning margin. A pair of games have been decided by just a single goal including a thrilling 13-12 victory for Cornell in overtime during the 2013 season.

SCOUTING CORNELL

  • Cornell is without three of its top five scorers from last season's team including Amie Dickson who led the Big Red with 72 points on 31 goals and 41 assists and Catherine Ellie who was the leading goal scorer in 2017 with 46 goals.
  • The Big Red is also without the services of Renee Poullott who started all 19 games last season going 13-6 with an 8.62 goals against average and a .508 save percentage as one of the best goaltenders in the nation.
  • Cornell finished 2017 13-6 overall and 6-1 in Ivy League play losing in the Ivy League Championship game to Princeton. The Tigers then knocked Cornell out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round to end the Big Red season.
  • Cornell opened its regular season slate last weekend with a 13-7 victory over Villanova.
  • Carolina Allen led all scorers with three goals while Grace Paletta, Tomasina Leska, Taylor Reed and Sarah Phillips each added a pair of goals for the Big Red.
  • Katie McGahan was incredible in net turning aside 18 shots in the victory as her 7.00 goals against average and .720 save percentage rank ninth and second in the nation, respectively.
  • Cornell was dominated on the draw, however, controlling just four of 22 draw controls on the afternoon. The Big Red also committed 14 turnovers.

NATTY HATTY

  • On Wednesday against Duquesne, freshman Sophia Triandafils registered career-high four goals including a natural hat-trick over just a 2:28 span early in the first half that helped Penn State jump out to a 6-0 lead.
  • Triandafils now has five goals on the season to lead all freshman in the Big Ten and rank fourth on the team, classmate Quinn Nicolai is second in the conference for goals by a freshman with four of her own.

OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER

  • The 19 goals scored against Duquesne is the most scored by the Nittany Lions in a single-game this season.
  • Penn State has scored 46 goals over the first three games to rank second in the Big Ten while averaging 15.33 goals per game to rank third in the conference and 18th nationally.
  • Five Nittany Lions have scored at least four goals so far this season led by 10 from Madison Carter and eight from Katie O'Donnell.

MAY I HELP YOU?

  • Sophomore Katie Schluederberg was seeing the field great on Wednesday and dished out a game-high four assists, which was also a career-high for the second-year attacker.
  • Schluederberg also added the first two goals of her collegiate career to give her a career-best six points to lead all scorers during the 19-8 victory over the Dukes.

CAGED ANIMAL

  • Coming off a career-high 14 save performance last Saturday, sophomore goaltender Madison Cunningham stopped five shots in the first half against Duquesne to secure her second consecutive victory.
  • Cunningham is currently 2-0 on the season and 3-0 for her career and ranks second in the Big Ten and 23rd in the nation with a .511 save percentage.

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH

  • 13 of the 19 goals Penn State scored on Wednesday came from underclassmen including multi-goal efforts from sophomore's Kristin Roberto, Maria Auth, Shannon Moore, and Schluederberg to go along with the four off the stick of Triandafils.

CAPTAIN K.O.

  • Even though the underclassmen packed the stat sheet against Duquesne, senior Katie O'Donnell managed to score a pair of her own to run her goal streak to 25 games and she has had multiple goals in each game this season.
  • O'Donnell also slid into a tie with Maggie Dunphy '86 for seventh on the Penn State all-time goals list with 150 and is just four goals outside the top-5.
