ROSEMONT, Ill. - Lauren Bridgens (Darnestown, Md.) has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. This is the fifth Big Ten Freshman of the Week award for Bridgens.
This past Friday in a quad meet at then-No. 21 BYU, Bridgens recorded the first perfect 10 on the uneven bars in program history en route to the event title and she won the all-around with a 39.375. In addition to her two titles, she tied for seventh on the balance beam (9.825), tied for 11th on the floor exercise (9.775), and tied for 12th on vault (9.775).
With her feat on Friday, Bridgens is one of four gymnasts to tally a perfect 10 on the uneven bars nationally this season. In program history, Bridgens recorded the 10th perfect 10.
No. 25 Penn State heads to Piscataway, New Jersey, for the Big Five Meet on Saturday, March 17. In the Piscataway Big Five section, Penn State will compete against No. 32 Iowa, No. 7 Michigan, No. 22 Minnesota, and Rutgers. The meet is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start at the Rutgers Athletic Center live on the Big Ten Network.
