COLLEGE STATION, Texas ââ'¬" The Penn State softball team traveled to No. 7 Texas A&M to kick off its spring break trip against its second ranked opponent of the season. The Nittany Lions were unable to grab the upset victory as it fell 8-0 in five innings to the Aggies.

Senior Jessica Cummings (Owings, Md.) took the loss in the circle after giving up three runs in the first inning before Madison Shaffer (New Castle, Pa.) came on in relief in the first inning with no outs. Shaffer struck out three batters on the day for the Blue and White.

Freshman Dani Fey (Bangor, Pa.) extended her reached base streak to nine games after earning the leadoff walk to start the game for the Nittany Lions and notching a second walk later in the contest.

Texas A&M took the quick 3-0 lead with two wild pitches with runners on third base before a single up the middle scored the third run of the inning for the Aggies. With three runs on the board, a runner on first and no outs, head coach Amanda Lehotak made a pitching change to bring in Shaffer, who struck out two and got a ground ball out at third to end the inning.

A single into shallow right field with two runners on base for the Aggies extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning. A leadoff walk and two wild pitches put a runner 60 feet from home for the Aggies with one out on the board. Kristen Cuyos drove a long sacrifice fly to the warning track in right field to bring in the fifth run of the game for Texas A&M in the bottom of the third inning before the final out was retired.

The Aggies continued to add to its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as a run crossed home on a single that was kept in the infield by Johnson to prevent the hit from turning into extra bases as TAMU led 6-0 heading into the fifth inning.

A hit on the right field line with two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth inning would be all Texas A&M would need to score the final two runs of the game and lock up the 8-0 five inning win over the Blue and White.
