WGolf Faces Seven Big Ten Rivals at Lady Buckeye Invitational

April 13, 2018

Columbus, Ohio- The Penn State women's golf team is back on the road this weekend in Columbus, Ohio for the Lady Buckeye Invitational, hosted by Big Ten rival Ohio State, on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 14-15.

The tournament will take place at the Ohio State University Golf Club on the Scarlet Course. The course, located in Columbus, Ohio, is a par 72 and plays 6,319 yards. The 54-hole event will play 36 holes on Saturday followed by a championship round on Sunday. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day.

The 14-team field features seven other Big Ten teams, the most Penn State has faced in a single tournament this season. The Nittany Lions will be joined by Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State (No. 12), Minnesota, Ohio State and Rutgers. The remaining six teams include Indianapolis, Kent State (No. 16), Oregon State, Seton Hall, Toledo and Washington (No.15).

The six-girl lineup for Penn State includes juniors Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.), Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Ohio) and sophomores Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.).

The team is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational in March. Four Nittany Lions came in under par throughout the tournament with both Basso and Waller shooting rounds three-under 69. Basso finished on top for the team tying for 10th place overall.

Penn State looks to even further improve upon their previous fourth-place finish in the last tournament before the Big Ten Championship.

"We are looking forward to the Lady Buckeye and a chance to compete against many of the top Big Ten teams," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "The Scarlet Course is a great layout and one of the best courses in the Big Ten."

Round one will begin Saturday, Apr. 14 at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.

There is still time to join the team in their efforts to raise funds and awareness for women's heart health through their campaign, Birdies For The Heart. For the spring, Penn State has 67 birdies with only one tournament still remaining on the schedule.
