Shigo Sets School Record Twice

LEWISBURG, Pa. & SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Penn State track & field team combined for three top-10 performances in school history on Saturday, including Morgan Shigo (Blandon, Pa.) breaking his own school record in the men's hammer throw twice.

At the Triton Invitational in San Diego, California, the Nittany Lions got things going with Shigo breaking his own school record (222-11) on his first attempt (224-7) and then on his sixth, and final, attempt he recorded a distance of 225-7. In the men's hammer throw standings, Shigo captured the event title.

"I feel pretty happy," Shigo said on his performance. "Training is finally coming together and seeing some results. Definitely a lot to work on, but it is a start and a good PR in the middle of the season."

Along with Shigo's personal-best performance, a pair of Nittany Lion throwers also set season-best marks. Jon Yohman (New Wilmington, Pa.) set a season-best mark of 58-10.25 in the men's shot put to place 15th and David Lucas (Lititz, Pa.) posted a season-best tally of 190-0 to place 11th in the men's discus throw.

Sophomore Michael Biddle (Williamsburg, Pa.) went 219-8 in the men's javelin throw to finish fourth.

Back in Central Pennsylvania, the Nittany Lions set a pair of top-10 performances in school history.

The first top-10 performance came in the women's javelin throw with Steph Sievers (Douglassville, Pa.) improving her No. 9 spot with a toss of 162-10 to finish second. Also in the women's javelin throw, freshman Madison Smith (New Oxford, Pa.) finished fourth with a throw of 150-4.

On the track, senior Greta Lindsley (Lancaster, Pa.) cracked the top-10 at PSU as she ran the No. 10 time in school history in the women's 1,500-meter run (4:20.93) to finish fourth in the race.

In the women's high jump, senior Megan McCloskey (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) took home the event title with a season-best height of 5-10 and on the men's side, junior Devin Bradham (Williamstown, N.J.) recorded a fifth-place finish with his height of 6-9.50.

The men's triple jump saw a pair of Nittany Lions post a pair of top-five finishes with junior Bryce Williams (State College, Pa.) capturing the event title (50-0.50). Along with Williams, sophomore Darian Alston (West Chester, Pa.) opened up his outdoor season with a distance of 47-0.75 to place fifth.

In the men's 1,500-meter run, junior Billy McDevitt (Newtown Square, Pa.) led the charge for the Nittany Lions as he finished eighth with a personal-best time of 3:47.06.

The Nittany Lions closed out the evening with Penn Staters running in both 5,000-meter runs. On the women's side, sophomore Kathryn Munks (Chester, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 16:35.55 to place third, while John McGowan (Northport, N.Y.) took sixth in the men's race with a time of 14:18.01.
