UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- German field hockey standout Anna Simon (Hanau, Hesse, Germany) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Penn State field hockey team, under the guidance of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss. Simon brings an outstanding list of international credentials with her to Happy Valley.
Simon, a defender, played at the Karl Rehbein Schule in Hanau and graduated in 2017. The lion's share of her experience came against national and international competition. She was a member of the German U16 National Team that won the 2013 U16 European Championship. She also helped guide her squad to the 2013 German National School Championship.
At the Karl Rehbein School, she helped guide the team to four State Championships from 2012 through 2015 and was captain of the state all-star team in 2014. In 2016, she was named Best Defender at the U18 South German Indoor Championships. All told, Simon was named to the State All-Star Team five times.
"We are thrilled to welcome Anna and her parents, Silke and Micheal, to the Penn State Field Hockey family," said Morett-Curtiss. "Anna is a very talented back who has competed on the U21 German National Team and will bring a wealth of defensive experience to the program. She has quick and deceptive stick skills which will be key in starting our attack from the backfield and her ability to communicate and organize the defense will be an asset to our team defense concepts. Anna is an outstanding student who is excited about receiving a world class education and degree from Penn State."
Simon is the daughter of Silke and Michael Simon and has one brother, Kai.
