Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season on the Road

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 18, 2018 - The No. 49 Penn State men's tennis team will close out their regular season on the road this weekend with two conference matches. The Lions take on Purdue Friday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m. and No. 46 Indiana Sunday, April 22 at 12:00 p.m.

No. 49 Penn State (14-10, 4-5 B1G) is coming off a split weekend. The Lions dominated Northwestern, 6-1, but fell to then No. 6 Illinois, 4-0. The win against Northwestern started off closely contested with the Lions going 2-1 in doubles, but the team swiftly took five singles points.

Purdue (10-14, 2-7 B1G) is coming off a tough loss on the road to Iowa. The Boilermakers last win came against Nebraska, 5-2. Purdue has one ranked singles player, No. 111 Gergely Madarasz, and a doubles pair sitting at No. 75 consisting of Gergely Madarasz and Athell Bennett. The Lions are 15-16 all time against Purdue and are looking to tie up the series. Last season, the Boilermakers knocked off Penn State, 5-2.

No. 46 Indiana (13-10, 6-3 B1G) is coming off two close wins against Iowa and Nebraska. Before facing the Nittany Lions Sunday, the Hoosiers will face No. 3 Ohio State. In singles, Indiana's Raheel Manji is ranked No. 121 in the ITA poll. Last season, the Lions upset then No. 45 Indiana, 5-2.

These two matches will conclude regular season play for the Nittany Lions. Following this weekend, the team will compete at the Big Ten Championships set to begin April 26 in Iowa City, Iowa.
