UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three members of the Penn State men's golf program have advanced in the qualifying process for the 2018 U.S. Open. Assistant coach T.J. After shooting a 1-under 70 on the 7,044 yard, par 71 DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday. Weather forced the three-man playoff to Friday morning where Miller made par on the fourth playoff hole to capture the qualifying spot.
Howe competed at Butler Country Club in Butler, Pennsylvania, and carded an even-par 70 to finish in a tie for third place, three-strokes off the lead. He was part of a three-man playoff to grab one of the two final spots in the qualifier.
Davis finished in sole possession of third place on Monday at Essex County Country Club in West Orange, New Jersey, after firing a 2-under 69.
The trio are three of 500 individuals to advance to sectional qualifying with the number of players to be determined based off of the size and strength of the field.
The 118th U.S. Open will be played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, June 14-17.
Howe was the last Nittany Lion to play in the event, participating in the 2016 Open at Oakmont Country Club and was an alternate in 2017 at Erin Hills.
Penn State will be back in action in the NCAA Columbus Regional at Ohio State Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio, Monday-Wednesday, May 14-16.
