2018 Penn State WVB Schedule
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's volleyball Hall of Fame head coach Russ Rose has announced the 2018 schedule for his historic 40th season at the helm. The schedule is highlighted by 15 home matches and three match-ups with fellow 2017 NCAA Semifinalists.
The Nittany Lions will open the 2018 season with back-to-back home tournaments as they will host Navy, Eastern Kentucky, and UMBC in the Penn State Invitational on August 24-25. They will stay at Rec Hall the following weekend as they are set to host Temple on Friday, August 31 and Texas A&M on Saturday, September 1 for the Penn State Classic. Indiana will also take part in the Penn State Classic, but the two Big Ten teams will wait for the regular season to face each other.
Penn State's match against Texas A&M will be the lone home match of the entire month of September as the Nittany Lions are slated to play nine-straight contest away from Rec Hall.
The road trip will start with a two-game quest to Stanford, California, as the Nittany Lions scheduled to play 2017 NCAA Semifinalist Stanford on Friday, September 7, and then will turn around and take on Oregon on September 8 as part of the Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge.
The Nittany Lions' next leg of the road trip will take the team to Washington, D.C., where Penn State is slated to head to Howard on Friday, September 14. On Saturday, September 15, the Nittany Lions will play a neutral site contest against Buffalo at American, and will then turn around to play a second match of the day, taking on the host American.
Following the trip to the nation's capital, Penn State will open up Big Ten action on Wednesday, September 19 as the Nittany Lions' head to Minnesota.
Penn State will close out their nine-match trek with matches as Ohio State (Sept. 22), and a trip to the 'Mitten' taking Michigan State (Sept. 28) and Michigan (Sept. 29).
While September may make the Nittany Lions into road warriors, October features a slate where six of the eight matches of the month will take place in Rec Hall.
On Friday, October 5, the Nittany Lions will welcome Maryland to Happy Valley, with Ohio State coming to town on Saturday, October 6.
Penn State will hit the road for a single midweek game at Purdue (Oct. 10), and will then return home to take on 2017 NCAA National Champion Nebraska for the first of two regular-season meetings in 2018 on Saturday, October 13.
The Nittany Lions will then take on Rutgers in back-to-back contests, hosting the Scarlet Knights on Wednesday, October 17, and making the trip to Piscataway, New Jersey on Saturday, October 20.
The month of October will close out in Rec Hall as Penn State takes on Indiana (Oct. 26) and Purdue (Oct. 27).
Penn State will open November with a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska for the second meeting between the Nittany Lions and the Cornhuskers on November 2, and will continue on the road with matches at Iowa (Nov. 2), Northwestern (Nov. 9), and Illinois (Nov. 10).
The end of the regular season will run through Rec Hall as the Nittany Lions will host Michigan (Nov. 14), Northwestern (Nov. 17), Minnesota (Nov. 23), and Wisconsin (Nov. 24).
