May 22, 2018

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-- Penn State Nittany Lion wrestler Brady Berge (Mantorville, Minn.) has wrestled his way to a spot on Team USA's Junior National World Team. The Minnesota native, who heads into next year as a red-shirt freshman on Cael Sanderson's squad, won the 70 kg title at the U.S. Junior Freestyle World Team Trials over the weekend in Rochester, Minn.

Berge avenged a criteria loss for the U.S. Open title earlier this year in Las Vegas by downing Austin O'Connor in the finals to secure the spot on the World Team. Berge won the final series 2-1, winning the first bout 7-4 before losing the second 10-0. He responded with a rousing 6-2 win in the third bout to win the 70 kg title.

Berge will continue has been an outstanding freestyle season at the 2018 Junior World Championships on October 17-23 in Trnava, Slovakia. He is coming off a red-shirt season that saw him post a 4-1 mark as an unattached wrestler as the Nittany Lions won their seventh NCAA team title in the last eight years and went 14-0 in duals, including a 9-0 mark in the Big Ten.
