STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State has launched its 2018 online auction with more than 80 items up for bid to help raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. In addition to the auction and upcoming Coaches vs. Cancer golf tournament, year-round events support cancer research and mission programs in the Centre region.
Among the items up for bid in this auction are items autographed by Penn State coaches Patrick Chambers, Cael Sanderson and by former Nittany Lion student-athletes.
The exclusive experiences are popular items with the Penn State men's basketball "Coach for a Day" experience, offering a behind-the-scenes view of the Nittany Lion program and seats behind the team bench on gameday.
A one-of-a-kind item up for bid is the autographed pair of custom Penn State sneakers Coach Patrick Chambers wore during "Suits and Sneakers Week" in January. That week, the Nittany Lions went 2-0 with a thrilling victory at No. 13 Ohio State and Bryce Jordan Center win vs. Rutgers.
Other autographed items include a Shep Garner-signed basketball commemorating his Big Ten and Penn State 3-point field goal records in 2017-18 and a Penn State basketball signed by Nittany Lion Tony Carr, a 2018 first-team All-Big Ten selection. Carr became the first Penn State men's basketball sophomore to score 1,000 points before turning pro in April.
Four club seats for Justin Timberlake's Oct. 15 show at the BJC are another auction highlight with gift cards for services and dining, gift baskets from local businesses and themed packages are also available for bid.
The items may be viewed online at www.biddingforgood.com/PSUCVC.
Franco Harris, Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee and former Nittany Lion running back, and current Los Angeles Rams placekicker Sam Ficken, who converted the game-winning field goal in the 2014 Pinstripe Bowl, signed footballs for this auction.
All bids for auction items must be placed before 10 p.m. on June 2, 2018. Registration on the auction site is required to bid on items and credit card information is collected to secure the winning bid. Arrangements will be made with the winning bidders to delivery or deliver items.
Since the organization's launch, the CVC-Penn State chapter has raised more than $2.8 million net to date and is among nation's most successful fundraising chapters. Its goal is to surpass the $3 million mark in 2018.
Upcoming Coaches vs. Cancer Penn State events include the 22nd annual golf tournament Thursday-Friday, May 31-June 1, State College Spikes game on Aug. 3, 2018, the State College Brew Expo at Tussey Mountain Ski Resort Saturday, Aug. 11, and the annual Reverse Car Drawing, hosted by the Bestwick Foundation, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Thursday, Sept. 20.
