UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State track & field team is set to host its lone home meet of the 2018 outdoor season, the Jim Thorpe Open, on Friday, May 4, at the Nittany Lion Outdoor Track. The meet is slated for a 2 p.m. start.

LAST TIME OUT
Last week, Penn State competed at the 124th Penn Relays at Franklin Field. The Nittany Lions left the Penn Relays with a pair of school records, a Penn Relays wheel, and one individual Nittany Lion winning a Penn Relays watch.

At the Penn Relays, sophomore Kathryn Munks finished third in the women's 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 16:23.15 to win a Penn Relays watch for being the top attached collegian in the race.

Both Penn State sprint medley relay squads tallied school record performances, which included a first-place finish (3:15.25) by the quartet of Xavier Smith, Malik Moffett, Kier Miner, and Isaiah Harris in the men's Championship of America race.

In the women's race, the relay of Keianna Albury, Kiara Lester, Deja Davis, and Danae Rivers placed third in the Championship of America section with their time of 3:47.80.

The men's 4x400-meter relay of Miner, Smith, Samuel Reiser, and Harris capped off the meet with the No. 4 time in school history (3:05.13).

Heading into the weekend, the Nittany Lions have 10 performances that rank in the top-25 between the men's and women's programs.

The Penn State men's track & field program ranks No. 24 in the nation, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

In the national rankings, Penn State is the No. 3 Big Ten team as Illinois checks in at No. 17 and Nebraska is No. 20.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Nittany Lions head to Bloomington, Indiana, for the 2018 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet is held at the Robert C. Haugh Complex, May 11-13.
