UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-- Penn State Women's Tennis incoming sophomore Chelsea Sawyer (Clemmons, N.C.) won her singles and doubles draws at the 2018 Oracle ITA Summer Circuit powered by UTR. Sawyer was at the event hosted by Middle Tennessee from July 14 to 16.
In the Women's A Singles, Sawyer was the No. 4 seed and won four matches in her route to victory. Sawyer defeated Margaret Lucas, 6-2, 6-1. She then took on Claire Sullivan and won 6-1, retired. Sawyer then took on the No. 1 seed Gabby Schuck, in a come from behind, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory. To cap it off, Sawyer took on Alee Clayton in the finals, in another come from behind win, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
In doubles, Sawyer paired up with Gabby Schuck. Sawyer and Schuck dominated on their way to victory, starting off the first round with a bye. They then took on Bandy/Klazmer, winning 8-1. They then took on Monroe/Steely, defeating them 8-2. Sawyer/Schuck followed that win up with another 8-2 win over Summers/Martin. In the final, they took on Bauers/Bojzcuk securing an 8-7 victory to win the draw.
Sawyer will be joining the team for the 2018-19 season.
