Freund, Veregin Set for Canadian Swimming Trials

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's swimmers Kaelan Freund and Liam Veregin will compete in the 2018 Canadian Swimming Trials Wednesday-Sunday at the Kinsmen Sports Center in Edmonton, Alberta.

Both rising juniors, Freund will compete in the 100-meter breaststroke (Wednesday), 200m IM (Friday) and 200 breast (Sunday), while Veregin will compete in the 100m (Thursday) and 200m (Saturday) backstrokes.

Freund and Veregin are both seeking places on the Canadian Pan Pacific Championship team. There are approximately 32 slots to be filled on the team with individual event winners earning automatic bids. The rest of the team will then be filled by fulfilling relay needs, selecting second and third place finishers that have achieved FINA A qualifying standards and potential discretionary selections.

Freund was a national champion in the 50m and 100m breaststroke in 2017.
