UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Head coach John Gondak has announced the schedule for the 2018 Penn State cross country season on Wednesday, July 25. The 2018 slate features three home meets at the Blue-White Golf Course with the Nittany Lions hosting the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship on November 9.
"I am excited to announce our 2018 cross country schedule," Gondak said. "We begin the year with our annual Dolan Duals and then host Spiked Shoe on the new layout for our men's home course. The new course should be more spectator friendly for our fans to help support the team."
The season begins with Penn State taking a quick drive north to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, for the Dolan Duals on August 31. Following the Dolan Duals, Penn State hosts its first of three home meets with the Harry Groves Spike Shoe Invitational on September 7.
Penn State then treks west to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Nuttycombe Invite hosted by the University of Wisconsin on September 28, which will give the Nittany Lions a preview of the NCAA Championships course - Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. Penn State then returns home to Happy Valley to host the National Open on October 12.
"The middle of the season we will be competing in two outstanding meets as we will be attending the Nuttycombe Invitational at Wisconsin to preview the course that is hosting the NCAA Championships," Gondak added. "Our National Open meet on October 12 is turning out to be an outstanding meet with 28 teams from around the country coming to Happy Valley."
The Nittany Lions begin championship season with the Big Ten Championships hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska, on October 28. Penn State will look to qualify both teams to the NCAA Championships with the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship on November 9 at the Blue-White Golf Course.
The 2018 cross country season comes to a close on November 17 with the 2018 NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
"Championship time this year will be exciting for the Nittany Lions as we head to Nebraska for the Big Ten Championships and then host the Mid-Atlantic Regional right here on our home course," Gondak said. "We enjoy hosting championships at Penn State and having the road to the NCAA Championships run through our home course is always an advantage."
