Coaching Staff
Penn State Rugby Camps feature the coaching staffs of both of the University's nationally ranked teams and take great pride in the program's ability to consistently attract other top coaches and instructors from the nation's best teams and elite programs to fully serve the needs of the campers.
Blake Burdette
Blake Burdette is the head coach of the Penn State men's rugby team. Originally from Minneapolis, MN, Coach Burdette comes to Penn State from Salt Lake City, UT. His rugby career started in high school where he played for the storied program Highland from 1996-98.
From 2002-04, Burdette played football for the University of Utah. He was a starter at tight end during the 2003 and the 2004 seasons for the Utah Utes football team, which won the Liberty Bowl and Fiesta Bowl respectively. Burdette also starred for the Utes as a 4-time All-American rugby player (2003-2006).
After his university days, Burdette was a member of the United States National Rugby Team. Making his debut in 2006 against Uruguay, he went on to earn 13 caps as well as represent the United States at the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.
In 2007, Burdette joined the University of Utah as assistant coach and took over as head coach in 2008. He coached the Utes through the 2013 season. In the 2014 season, Burdette started the high school rugby program at his alma mater Olympus High School in Salt Lake City. After two seasons with Olympus, Burdette was hired as the head coach of the Pennsylvania State University Men's Rugby Team in September of 2015. He is the first full-time, university employed head coach in the history of Penn State Rugby.
Kate Daley
Kate Daley is the head coach of the 10-time National Champions Penn State women's rugby team. Daley also serves as an assistant coach for the USA U20 women's National team focusing on backs and defense and an assistant coach for the Northeast Rugby Olympic Development Academy focusing on 7s. A member of the PSU team from 2004 to 2009, Daley competed in 5 National Championship games, winning 2 and receiving MVP honors for both wins. Daley is a 4-time All-American and USA National team player. Most recently, she has served as the captain of the USA Rugby women's national team in the 2014 World Cup.
