![]() | John Amaechi Men's Basketball John Amaechi was a center for the Nittany Lion basketball team from the 1992-93 season through the 1994-95 campaign. Penn State's No. 11 scorer all-time with 1310 points, Amaechi went on to play in the NBA for the Orlando Magic as well as several other teams before moving back to play in England and eventually engaging in numerous and diverse professional endeavors. ![]() | Adam Taliaferro Football In 2000, Adam Taliaferro was a freshman football player for Penn State with vast potential on the playing field. Taliaferro had played well enough to earn time as a true freshman for Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions, but during his fifth career game everything changed. After a career-ending spinal cord injury suffered during the Ohio State game on September 23, 2000, moving up the depth chart was no longer Taliaferro's goal, it was simply to walk again. With his family, teammates and Penn State fans behind him, Taliaferro would endure months of rehabilitation to achieve his new goal. ![]() | Nadia Edwards Women's Volleyball Nadia Edwards was a middle hitter for the Penn State women's volleyball team from 1997-2000, aiding the squad to four Big Ten Championships, three NCAA National Final berths and the 1999 NCAA National Championship title. During her tenure, Edwards' squads compiled a 71-2 overall record, and after graduating from Penn State in 2001 with a degree in business marketing, Edwards played volleyball professionally for three years, both in the states and overseas. She competed in the A1 European League for two years as a team captain and starting outside hitter for the Glarus (Switzerland) squad (2004-05) and then played in the opposite position for the Granada (Spain) team (2003-04). Edwards also played in the United States Professional Volleyball League (2001-02) for the St. Louis Quest. She has served as an assistant coach at the University of Ohio, currently is an assistant coach for Ohio State.
