WBB Alum Lisa Salters Named Homecoming Grand Marshal

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Homecoming has selected former Penn State Women's Basketball player Lisa Salters as the 2018 Grand Marshal, as announced Sunday evening.

Salters was a guard for the Lady Lions from 1986-87 and earned her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Penn State in 1988.

A Penn State alum is selected as the Homecoming Grand Marshal each year. Selected Grand Marshals are those alum that embodied the values and mission of Penn State during his or her time at PSU and continue that dedication beyond graduation, making notable achievements in his or her field and demonstrating what it truly means to be a Penn Stater.

Salters is a sideline reporter for two of ESPN's biggest sports properties – the NFL's Monday Night Football and NBA games on ESPN and ABC – and a featured correspondent for the company's award-winning E:60 newsmagazine.

"Our goal when choosing a Grand Marshal is to select a Penn State alum who has made an impact not just during their time here at Penn State, but also long after graduation," said Sarah Leipham, Homecoming Alumni Relations Director. "Lisa Salters was a clear choice due to her numerous achievements in journalism and devotion to delivering quality news stories to audiences for decades. We are thrilled to welcome Lisa back home for Homecoming 2018."

Salters joined ESPN as a general assignment reporter in March 2000. She has covered the NBA since 2005 and was the sideline reporter for ABC's Saturday Night Football college football games for five seasons (2006-10). She joined Monday Night Football in 2012. Beyond covering high-profile events, Salters has been a featured correspondent on the E:60 newsmagazine since the series launched in 2007.

Salters' journalistic assignments for ESPN have brought her to major global events around the world. She covered the United States National Team during the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan. She reported from the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, and hosted ESPN's coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

Before arriving at ESPN, Salters worked for ABC News from 1995-2000 after a stint at Baltimore's NBC affiliate, WBAL-TV.

Penn State's 2018 Homecoming week begins Oct. 7 and concludes with the Oct. 13 football game against Michigan State. Salters will serve alongside Honorary Grand Marshal, Troy Alesi. The pair will be in attendance at the Student-Alumni Ice Cream Social on Friday, October 12 from 1-3pm and will also be honored during the Homecoming Parade and on-field during the Homecoming Football Game vs. Michigan State.
