Freshmen Lead No. 5 Women’s Volleyball By Buffalo

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 5 Penn State women's volleyball team took care of business on Saturday morning as they swept Buffalo, 3-0; 25-18, 25-14, 25-10, in a neutral site contest behind career performances from freshmen Allyson Cathey and Serena Gray.

Cathey, who made her first start of the season, put down a career-best 13 kills on a .550 hitting percentage on the outside. She added three blocks and three digs to her stat line.

Gray put together her first double-digit kill performance of the season as the middle blocker tallied 11 kills on a team-high .667 clip. She also added three blocks.

Fellow freshman Jonni Parker played a complete game, tallying nine kills on a .471 hitting percentage. She also added six digs, two blocks, and three assists.

Redshirt senior setter Bryanna Weiskircher directed the offense to a team clip of .440, while dishing out 31 assists. She also added five digs, three kills, an ace and one block.

Defensively, junior libero Kendall White scooped up a match-high 10 digs. Freshman Kaitlyn Hord led the match with four blocks.

As a team, Penn State put down 45 kills, adding five service aces and 7.0 blocks for the match.

The Nittany Lions return to action on Saturday evening as they take on host American at 7 p.m. in Bender Arena.
