MIDLAND, Texas-- The Penn State women's tennis team wrapped up day two at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) took the court in singles and two doubles pairs continued play.
O'Gorman advanced to the round of eight in singles, after two wins yesterday. Today, she faced off against the tournament's No. 1 seed, Anna Brogan of Tyler Junior College, falling 6-2, 6-3.
Doubles play continued for both the pairings of O'Gorman/Sawyer and Smith/Svarre on day two. O'Gorman and Chelsea Sawyer (Clemmons, N.C.) took on Stewart and Adams of Abilene Christian University, falling 8-5. Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) fell to Genovese and Brogan of Tyler Junior College, 8-1.
"Overall, it was a better day than yesterday for the team," said assistant coach Alexandra Anghelescu. "Our girls were eager to get back out on the court to work on the things that we discussed at the end of yesterday. It was very impressive to see how coachable each player was during their match. They came out with a positive attitude and mentality to get better, which they did. With this mindset, I can only see this team getting better and succeeding."
The Nittany Lions will wrap up play tomorrow at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.
