PHILADELPHIA, Pa.-- The Penn State women's tennis team wrapped up day one of competition at the Cissie Leary Invitational today. All four members of the squad that traveled, saw action in both singles and doubles.

Hirsch took on Tara Veluvolu of Drexel, and pushed the match to a tie-break where she fell, 7-6(2), 3-6, (10-2).

Weinberg also had a bye in the round of 32 for singles, but got things kicked off in the round of 16 with a match against Oyku Boz of Temple. Weinberg came from behind to pull out a win against Boz, 3-6, 6-0, (10-7).

In doubles, the pairing of Rohrbacher/Ryan took on Wan/Kevakian of Columbia, winning 7-5. Rohrbacher/Ryan then took on, Curnic/Bryzgalova of the University of Pennsylvania, falling in a close match, 7-6(4). Weinberg/Hirsch had a bye in the round of 32, and took on Castelli/Boz from Temple in the round of 16, falling 7-5.

"I told the team that going into today I was looking for them to compete hard, be coachable on court and support each other all day," said head coach Chris Cagle. "They did all three of those things and as a result we put ourselves in positions to win many matches. I thought our doubles play overall was good in the morning, so that was a good start.  We need to learn from singles play today and do a better job closing out sets and matches tomorrow. The will is there so the experience of the first day should make us better tomorrow!"

Singles and doubles play will continue tomorrow for the Nittany Lions.
