UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 24 Penn State women's soccer team fell to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 1-0, in a Big Ten conference match Thursday evening at Jeffrey Field.
"I'd say all credit goes to Nebraska tonight," head coach Erica Dambach said. "Nebraska put together a game plan that obviously caused us too many issues that we weren't able to break down and give them total credit. Good push from our group at the end, but way too little too late."
The Nittany Lions (6-5-0, 2-2-0 Big Ten) put three shots on goal over the first 23:34 of play, but Husker goalkeeper Aubrei Corder was there to keep the PSU offense in check.
The Huskers (8-3-2, 4-0-1 Big Ten) tallied the lone goal of the night in the 24th minute via a penalty kick goal from Savanah Uveges. With the first 45 minutes in the books, Nebraska outshot Penn State, 5-4.
Over the final 45 minutes of play, the Nittany Lions tallied 12 shot attempts with six of those attempts on goal, but they were unable to find the game-tying goal.
During the final 10 minute of regulation, Penn State had six shot attempts, and three corner kicks, but the stout Nebraska defense stood tall to secure the win.
The No. 24 Nittany Lions close out their two-match homestand on Sunday, Sept. 30, against Iowa. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start at Jeffrey Field.
