SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – A third-period goal from freshman Anna Promersberger lifted the Penn State women's hockey team defeat Union 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink.

The Nittany Lions (3-2-1) improved to 3-1 on the road with the win. Union dropped to 1-5 overall.

Amanda McLeod and Katie McMillan also scored for Penn State, both in unassisted fashion. McCleod's score was her first of the season while McMillan's was her second.

Penn State did not take long to jump in front with McLeod's opening score just 1:54 into the game. After an offensive zone face off for Penn State, McLeod stole the puck from the Union defense and snuck a backhanded shot through the legs of the Union netminder for the opening score.

Union bounced right back less than a minute later to tie the game on Haley Shugart's goal at the 2:41 mark.

The Nittany Lions forecheck proved successful once again in the second period when the Nittany Lions forced another turnover behind the Union net. The puck slid to into the slot in front of the net where McMillan teed up a slapshot to put Penn State ahead 2-1.

Union made things interesting in the third period with another tying goal, this time from Katelyn Russ. Her goal knotted the game 2-2 with 9:30 remaining.

Penn State mustered a response once again to retake the lead with 6:02 remaining on what would be the eventual game-winning score from Promersberger. Meike Meilleur and Abby Welch cycled the puck in the offensive zone before Welch connected with Promersberger right in front of the goal for her first collegiate score.

The Nittany Lions locked it down from there as they had all game. Penn State's defense finished with eight blocked shots while Union only recorded nine shots on goal.
