JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Senior Ryan Dornes tied his career-low round with a 68 on the final day of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate to lead the Nittany Lions and finish 16th among individuals. Dornes tied his career-best three-round total of 210 (69-73-68) from his performance at the Windon Memorial Classic in fall 2017.
With a second-straight 282 team score, the Nittany Lions finished 6-under on Sunday and in 10th for the tournament at 858 (294-282-282). Louisville had the best final day at 277, but host institution East Tennessee State won the team title with an impressive first-day score of 270 and finished one stroke ahead of the Cardinals at 832 and 32-under for the event.
Dornes, from Lancaster, Pa., tallied 12 birdies through the weekend and made an eagle on the par-5 No. 14 in the final round. Junior Ryan Davis had five birdies and one eagle on Sunday and tied for Sunday's overall low round with a career-low 66. Davis (76-75-66=217) and senior Charles Huntzinger (73-71-73=217) tied for 42nd.
Senior JD Hughes posted his weekend's best score in the second round with a 68 (76-68-76=220) to tie for 55th. Junior Alec Bard tied his career low with a 70 on day two (77-70-75=222) and finished tied for 63rd. Sophomore Lukas Clark, competing as an individual, recorded his career-best with a 72 in the final round (78-73-72=223) and tied for 66th.
Louisville's Simon Zach eked out a one-stroke win over ETSU's Shiso Go with a third-round best 66 for a 201 total for the individual title.
Penn State travels to its final competition of the fall season at the UNCG Grandover Collegiate Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 27-28. The Nittany Lions will play two rounds on the first day with a single round on the second day. Two other teams from the Big Ten, Michigan State and Northwestern will be participating in this tournament as well.
