Opening Round of Landfall Tradition Suspended Until Saturday Morning

WILMINGTON, N.C. – After Penn State completed just 13-15 holes in the opening round of the Landfall Tradition play was halted for the second time during the round due to severe weather and was ultimately called off for the day. First round play will resume Saturday morning at 10 a.m. followed immediately by a shotgun start for round two.

"Conditions were very tough, lots of downpours, winds and puddling on the greens," mentioned head coach Denise St. Pierre. "I told the team to only be concerned with their decision making and to take what the course was giving them in the moment playing within themselves. Tomorrow we plan to continue to attack the golf course with our best games and see how things fall."

In a stacked field featuring eight of the top-25 teams in the nation, the Nittany Lions are currently tied for third at 10-over. Senior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) is pacing the team at 1-under through her first 14 holes and is in a tie for third just two strokes off the lead.

"I just stayed patient, I had plenty of pars which is great on a day like today and to see a few birdies fall was great too. We're all just excited to get back out there tomorrow," concluded Basso.
