UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-- The Penn State women's tennis team will compete in its final competition of the fall season at the Kitty Harrison Invitational. The Kitty Harrison Invitational is hosted by the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. from Nov. 2-4.
The invitational is a hidden dual format. In a hidden dual, there are no consolation brackets and the format is closer to the matches seen in the spring season. Penn State will directly compete against another school in either doubles or singles.
For the first time this season, all 10 members of the team will travel to compete this weekend.
"We have ended our fall schedule the last few years at the Kitty Harrison Invitational," said head coach Chris Cagle. "UNC does a first class job of hosting the event and the competition is always great. This is a chance for everyone on our team to show where they are at in terms of their level of play and overall competitiveness on court. Alex [Anghelescu] and I look forward to seeing our team take advantage of this opportunity that is in front of each player individually and as a team!"
Heading into the final tournament weekend, the Nittany Lions have recorded 40 singles wins and 19 doubles wins. Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) leads the team with 10 singles wins. The duo of Olivia Rohrbacher (Sandusky, Ohio) and Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) paces the squad with five doubles wins.
This invitational will conclude the fall tournament season for the Nittany Lions. The team will continue practice as it gears up for a competitive spring season.
