Schnurr Scores Twice in 2-1 OT Win at MSU

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Redshirt junior Kristin Schnurr (Bristow, Va.) made the most of her three shot attempts Friday night at Michigan State, as she scored twice in a 2-1 overtime win at DeMartin Soccer Complex. Schnurr scored her first goal of the evening in the 36th minute and then secured the game-winner at 97:59.

Michigan State (5-5-3, 0-4-2 Big Ten) scored first in the contest during the 20th minute, as Michaela Kovacs connected on a header off a corner kick.

The Spartans held on to their 1-0 lead until the 36th minute when Schnurr tallied her fifth goal of the 2018 campaign. On Schnurr's first goal of the evening, Maddie Nolf (Omaha, Neb.) played the ball to Emily Ogle (Strongsville, Ohio) inside the box, who in turn played the ball to Schnurr. Then from 10 yards out, Schnurr buried the pass into the bottom-left corner to tie the match at 1-1.

The two teams went into halftime tied at 1-1 with Penn State (8-5-0, 4-2-0 Big Ten) leading Michigan State in shot attempts, 12-7.

The second half of regulation featured Penn State outshooting Michigan State, 7-1, with five shot attempts on goal for the Nittany Lions.

The best look for the Nittany Lions in the second half came during the 79th minute off a header from Kerry Abello (Batavia, Ill.). On a corner kick from Alina Ortega Jurado (Waldgirmes, Germany), Abello headed the ball on goal, but Michigan State's Samantha White was there to record the team save.

The two teams went into overtime tied at 1-1 with Penn State outshooting Michigan State, 19-8.

Looking to capture her second overtime game-winning goal of the season, Frankie Tagliaferri (Colts Neck, N.J.) hit the crossbar at 97:33 and then Schnurr's rebound shot attempt went high at 97:42. The ensuing goal kick led to the Schnurr goal.

Reilley Ott took a goal kick, which ended up at the foot of Ogle. Ogle then played the ball to Tagliaferri, who then flicked the ball past the MSU defense to Schnurr. With the ball, Schnurr took a few steps and beat Ott for the game-winner at 97:59.

Junior Amanda Dennis (San Diego, Calif.) made two saves en route to her 20th career victory. Dennis' stepped up for a big save on Danielle Stephan in the 26th minute, as she fired a shot from distance on a set piece.

The Nittany Lions close out the weekend at Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 7. The match is slated for a noon start at U-M Soccer Stadium.
