Barry, Jack Lead Women’s Swimming & Diving at Big Al Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Penn State women's swimming & diving team sits in third place with a score of 473 points ahead of both Lehigh and Princeton during the first two rounds of the two-day Big Al Open at Denunzio Pool.

Nittany Lion Relays
Camryn Barry, Madison Murtagh, Marget Shelly and Elizabeth Gaspari took second place in the 800 free relay, finishing the race in 7:14.39.

Top Individual Performances
Barry led the Nittany Lions on day one taking first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.61. Following in a close second was freshman Madison Murtagh, swimming the race in 4:54.80, and sophomore Stephanie Szekely was sixth (4:58.70). Barry also placed fourth in the 200 free in 1:50.57.
 
Penn State saw its most success in the 100 breaststroke, claiming to the top four odd-numbered positions. Freshman and sophomore duo Olivia Jack and Carly Hart took both first (1:02.91) and third (1:03.64), respectively, while Maddie Cooke (1:05.13) and Aleks Tulacz (1:05.72) followed in fifth and seventh, respectively.
 
Jack also earned a top five finish in the 50 free (23.55).
 
Szekely and Hart also finished strong in the 400 IM, with Szekely coming in third with a time of 4:23.89 and Hart placing eighth (4:25.87). Marie Schobel earned an eighth-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
 
Next Up
Penn State will have a chance to move up the leaderboard Saturday for the second day of the Big Al Open at the Denunzio pool at Princeton. Action starts at 10 a.m.
 
Additionally, Penn State's Ally McHugh and Maddie Hart will compete in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Purdue starting at 5 p.m. The competition at Princeton will be streamed live on ESPN+, while the ACC/Big Ten Challenge will be streamed on BTN Plus on BTN2Go.
