Underclassmen Lead Penn State Women’s Swimming & Diving at Big Al Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Penn State women's swimming & diving team came in third place overall with a score of 687 ahead of both Lehigh (640) and host Princeton (520) after the final session of the two-day Big Al Open at Denunzio Pool.

Nittany Lion Relays
Nittany Lions Kathleen Sheridan, Elizabeth Gaspari, Camryn Barry and Olivia Jack completed the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:26.79 for a sixth-place finish.  

Top Individual Performances
After taking second in the 500 yard freestyle (4:54.80) on Friday, freshman Madison Murtagh claimed a definitive first place win in the 1650 free with a time of 16:46.12. Following Murtagh were Stephanie Szekely and Camryn Barry in both fourth (17:01.64) and eighth (17:13.83), respectively, after also having both placed in the 500 free on Friday. Szekely also placed in the top 20 in the 200 backstroke claiming seventh (2:01.39).
 
Freshman Marie Schobel improved upon her eighth-place finish in the 100 back moving into fifth place in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.95.
 
Following a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke on Friday, Carly Hart moved into second place for the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.44.
 
Brooke Matthias finished strong in the 200 fly with a time of 2:02.78 for a fourth-place finish.
 
Next Up
Penn State's Ally McHugh and Maddie Hart will compete in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Purdue starting at 5 p.m. today. The competition at ACC/Big Ten Challenge will be streamed on BTN Plus on BTN2Go.
