University Park, Pa. – The No. 7 Penn State women's volleyball team swept the No. 19-ranked Michigan Wolverines, 25-12, 25-23, 25-15, in Wednesday evening Big Ten action in Rec Hall to help the Nittany Lions improve to 21-6, 12-5 on the year.
Penn State saw redshirt senior Nia Reed and freshman Jonni Parker put down double digit kills as Reed led the match with 16, and Parker followed with 13. Reed hit a blistering .520, while also adding five blocks, which included three solo stuffs. Parker his .440 for the match and neared a double-double as the added nine digs.
The Nittany Lions also saw a great offensive effort form freshman middle blocker Kaitlyn Hord, who put down eight kills on a .538 hitting percentage. Hord also added four blocks. Hord's fellow freshmen Serena Gray and Allyson Cathey combined for nine kills, as Gray put down five in just 11 swings, and Cathey put down four in 10.
Junior libero Kendall White scooped up a match-high 11 digs, and surpassed 1,400 for her career as she now sits at 1,405.
Redshirt senior Bryanna Weiskircher dished out a match-best 42 assists, adding four digs and three blocks.
For the match, Penn State put down 47 kills, and hit .361 as a team, while also holding Michigan to just 27 kills on the evening and a .107 team hitting percentage.
Penn State returns to action on Saturday, November 17 at 7 p.m. at the Nittany Lions host Northwestern for Senior Night as they honor Bryanna Weiskircher, Nia Reed, Taylor Leath, and Bayleigh Hoffman.
