Junior cornerback John Reid (Mount Laurel, N.J.) has been selected as a nominee for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year, which is chosen by CoSIDA, The Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl organization.
Reid missed the 2017 season due to injury but fought back to return to his all-conference form in 2018.
He is second on the team with 10 passes defended, including interceptions against Iowa and Rutgers. He is sixth in the Big Ten in passes defended per game (1.11). Reid also has 22 tackles on the season with 1.0 tackles for loss.
Reid is now among the 30 candidates for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award, presented at the end of the season. Mayo Clinic, the premier sponsor, will donate $5,000 to the general scholarship funds for the three winners and $2,500 in the name of six other worthy finalists. In addition, the three honorees will be recognized during a special ceremony during the 2019 Fiesta Bowl. Honorees and winners are selected by a panel of writers, editors and sports information directors from CoSIDA, AP and Touchdown Illustrated, and representatives of the Fiesta Bowl.
