TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Penn State women's basketball team fell victim to a hot-shooting Florida State squad Thursday night as the Seminoles shot their way to an 87-58 win in the 2018 ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Sophomore Kamaria McDaniel paced the Lady Lions with a career-best 24 points. Senior Teniya Page continued her strong start to the season with 16 points. Freshman Bexley Wallace contributed a career-best nine points to go along with five rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- FSU started hot, getting out to an 11-5 lead four minutes into the game. Penn State responded with 16-10 run to close the quarter thanks to six points from Wallace, five from Page and a McDaniel three-pointer. The hot-shooting helped Penn State knot the score at 21-21 heading into the second quarter.
- Penn State shot 56.3 percent (9-for-16) from the field during the first quarter.
- The Seminoles shot 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) from beyond the arc and 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) from the field during the second quarter to surge ahead 48-33 heading into halftime.
- FSU scored 10 of the second half's first 12 points to stretch its lead to 58-35 with 3:19 to play in the third quarter. Page and McDaniel combined for nine points to help Penn State trim the gap down to 67-47 through three quarters.
- Penn State put together an 8-0 run from the 4:14 to 1:42 mark of the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as Florida State earned the 87-58 win.
KEY NOTES
- McDaniel's 24 points bested her previous career high of 20 that was set at Marshall on Nov. 15, 2017.
- McDaniel was 10-for-14 from the field.
- Wallace's nine points are a career-best. Her previous high was four points against Cal on Nov. 11.
- Siyeh Frazier led the squad with a career-best eight rebounds.
- Freshman Karisma Ortiz dished a team-high four assists.

- FSU was aided by an 11-for-26 (42.3 percent) showing from three-point range.
- The Seminoles finished the game with a 36-30 rebound edge.
- Kiah Gillespie led the Seminoles with 27 points.
UP NEXT
- The Lady Lions return home to host Jacksonville Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.
- The game will serve as Fitness Day and there will be free post-game zumba on the court after the game.
