IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 7 Penn State women's volleyball team swept Iowa, 3-0: 2518, 25-20, 25-17, to move to 19-5, 10-3 on the season in the Saturday night Big Ten match in Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.
A trio of freshmen was the story offensively as Jonni Parker led all hitters with 13 kills, hitting .480, Kaitlyn Hord added nine kills, hitting .533, and Serena Gray added eight kills, hitting .300.
Parker finished the match with four blocks and three digs, while Gray added five blocks and two digs. Hord was a wall at the net, tying a career-high with eight blocks.
Penn State also saw redshirt senior Nia Reed add eight kills, two blocks and a dig.
Freshman Allyson Cathey played the final set, putting down four kills on .429.
Defensively, junior Kendall White scooped up a match-high 17 digs, adding four assists and an ace. Graduate student Taylor Leath added eight digs, two blocks and three kills.
Redshirt senior Bryanna Weiskircher dished out 38 assists, adding 12 digs for her 26th career double-double and seventh of the season. She also added four blocks, four kills and an ace.
As a team, Penn State put down 49 kills on .313, while holding Iowa to .109 with just 33 kills. Penn State also put down 13.0 team blocks.
Penn State continues their road trip with an 8 p.m. ET match at Northwestern on Friday, November 9 in the new Welsh-Ryan Arena.
