Lady Lions Drop Hard-Fought Road Battle At Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Penn State women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 83-75 road battle at Indiana Monday night in Big Ten action at Assembly Hall.

The Hoosiers held a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter before outscoring the Lady Lions 27-20 in the final term with the help of a 13-for-15 showing from the free throw line and 12 fourth-quarter points from Ali Patberg.

Senior guard Teniya Page led four Lady Lions in double figures with 24 points, her seventh 20-plus point effort of the season. The Chicago native also led Penn State in rebounds (8) and assists (3).

Sophomores Alisia Smith and Kamaria McDaniel followed with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while junior Siyeh Frazier added 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Penn State got out to a 7-0 lead to force an early Indiana timeout four minutes into the game. The Lady Lions kept the Hoosiers scoreless for the first 4:22 of the contest, while forcing four Indiana turnovers in the opening four minutes.
  • Indiana raced back with a 10-3 run over the next five minutes to knot the score at 10-10 and force a Penn State timeout. Penn State responded with jumpers from Frazier and senior Amari Carter to close the opening quarter on a 4-1 streak and take a 14-11 lead into the second term.
  • Four points from Smith allowed Penn State's lead to reach five at 18-13 with 7:52 left in the first half. Indiana scored the next six points to take a momentary lead, but Page drained a three-pointer and Frazier followed with a layup to put PSU back on top, 23-19, with 3:51 on the clock.
  •  The Hoosiers rallied back with an 8-2 run, which included six points from the free throw line, to close the half and take a slim 27-25 lead into the break.
  •  A 9-2 run shortly into the third quarter allowed the Hoosiers to pull ahead 41-35 just under four minutes into the stanza. Indiana held onto that six-point lead at 46-40 at the 4:30 mark.
  • Five points from Smith then helped fuel a 10-0 streak for the Lady Lions over the next two minutes. McDaniel, Page and Frazier added baskets to put Penn State back in front, 50-46, with 2:14 on the clock.
  • Indiana answered right back with 10 of the quarter's final 14 points to take a one-point lead, 56-55, heading into the final stanza.
  • The score was tied at 59-59 just over a minute into the fourth quarter before Indiana's Patberg scored 12 points in a 4:35 stretch to move Indiana's lead to 71-64.
  • Indiana's lead reached as much as nine at 75-66 at the 2:41 mark, before Penn State went 6-for-6 from the free throw line and pulled back within four at 76-72 with 1:05 to play.
  • The Hoosiers iced the game with a 7-for-8 effort from the charity stripe in the final minute to secure the 83-75 win.
