UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; January 25, 2019 – The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team, under the guidance of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss, has added yet another talented student-athlete to its incoming class of freshmen. Holland's Elena Vos has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Penn State field hockey program.
Vos hails from Grave, The Netherlands. A three-year captain for NMHC Nijmegen, which competes in the country's top league, Vos began playing field hockey at the age of seven. Vos is a midfielder who can transition to any position. She consistently helped lead her team to top finishes in many district and international tournaments, both indoor and outdoor. She was recently named the Most Outstanding Player at the Tapperuse/Mercian Indoor Tournament, one of the region's top events. Vos's two brothers (Imre and Jesse) play field hockey in Holland, her mother (Mieke) played basketball for BC Rush and her father (Arthur) competed for high-level club soccer teams and has managed several field hockey teams.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Elena and her family to our Penn State Field Hockey program," said Morett-Curtiss. "She is an exceptionally talented field hockey player who plays with a great competitive spirit and passion. Her strengths on the field go from one end to the other with tenacious defensive skills and an aggressive transition game on the attack. She has the versatility to play a number of positions and to be effective wherever she is on the field."
Vos joins an outstanding class that also includes Lauren Delgado (East Earl, Pa.), Emily Farrell (Wyoming, Pa.), Carly Gannon (Havertown, Pa.), Kelsey Love (State College, Pa.), Evelyn Murray (Virginia Beach, Va.), Aubrey Mytych (Wyoming, Pa.) and Wirth Paityn (Thompsontown, Pa.).
