Berger Earns Big Ten First Star of the Week Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior Chase Berger (St. Louis, Mo.) was named the Big Ten Conference First Star of the Week earlier Tuesday morning following a five-point weekend during a sweep over Minnesota.

The senior, who hasn't missed a game since stepping foot on campus playing in 143 consecutive games, earns just his third career weekly honor and his first in over two years when he was also named the B1G First Star on January 17, 2017. The senior becomes the eighth different Nittany Lion to earn star of the week accolades so far this season.

Berger tied for the national lead with five points over the weekend on a pair of goals and three assists as he registered his fifth and sixth multi-point efforts of the season in the process. Berger scored once while adding two assists during Friday's 7-2 rout before collecting one goal and one assist on Saturday to close out the sweep. The St. Louis, Missouri native also led the entire nation with a plus-4 rating and went 23-for-33 on the draw.

Berger has surpassed the 20-point mark in a season for the fourth-straight year while his 12 goals stand just one shy of his career-high of 13 registered during both his freshman and sophomore campaigns. The senior's career numbers of 49 goals and 63 assists for 112 points each rank second in program history along with his career games played.

Berger's 112 points are also tied for tenth among active players nationally and fourth in the Big Ten while his 143 games played are tied for the tenth most in the nation and rank atop everyone in the Big Ten.

Late last week Berger was also named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and fans can go in and VOTE for him as many times per day as they want up until April 8.
