HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-- Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) defeated the No. 33 ranked singles player in the country as the Penn State women's tennis team fell to Furman in a tight match, 4-3. Penn State moves to 5-2 on the season and Furman improves to 9-1.

Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) continues her perfect season marching on to a 7-0 record in singles, which hasn't been done since 2013 when Chelsea Utting went 9-0.

"Today was a tough day with it being so close, but [assistant coach] Alexandra [Anghelescu] and I are proud of the way our team competed with composure all day," said head coach Chris Cagle. "We created our chances in doubles, but did not quite finish. We talk about how competing is about how you deal with adversity and we came right back in singles and made a statement. Gabby [O'Gorman] had a very solid win over the No. 33 player in the country. Up and down the lineup we competed. We are on an upward trajectory. Now we have to do what good teams do and back it up tomorrow and compete at a high level once again, which I know we can do!"

DOUBLES

Penn State lost its first doubles point of the year, going 1-2. O'Gorman and Olivia Rohrbacher (Sandusky, Ohio) were able to get a win over previously unbeaten, Katarina Kozarov and Julia Adams, 6-1.

O'Gorman and Rohrbacher move to a perfect 7-0 as a duo.

SINGLES

O'Gorman defeated the second ranked opponent of her career in straight sets as she took down No. 33 Kozarov. O'Gorman moves to 6-1 on the season in singles play.

Svarre easily got her seventh win of the season to keep her streak alive, defeating Madison Dillon, 6-3, 6-1. Chelsea Sawyer (Clemmons, N.C.) made her way back into the lineup with a victory over Julia Adams, 7-5, 6-4.

Rohrbacher and Shannon Hanley (Kensington, Md.) each took their matches to a third set, but came up just short. Rohrbacher fell to Katty Weymouth 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Hanley fell to Carol Kerman, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) lost to Taylor Melville in a tight match, 7-5, 6-4.
